In-State Refunds
If you sell your vehicle before the end of your registration period and are not transferring the plate to another vehicle, you may be eligible for a refund on a the remaining portion of the property taxes and registration. Refunds are given for the full months remaining on the registration year AND must be over $5.00. It is very important that you apply for your refund as soon as possible.
You must provide the following:
- The metal license plate
- The current Kansas vehicle registration
Out of State Refunds
If you have moved out of the state of Kansas, you may be eligible for a refund on part of the property taxes that you paid for your registration period. Refunds are given for full months remaining on the registration year, and must be over $5.00.
You must provide the following:
- The metal license plate
- The current Kansas vehicle registration
- A copy of the current out of state registration
- A copy of the out of state driver's license
- Address for mailing refund
